Embase & BNF available

Some new resources have been made available to HSE staff this year including EMBASE, BNF & BNF for children. Embase is a bibliographic database covering international biomedical literature from 1947 to the present day. It covers over 5 million records not available in MEDLINE. Embase is most commonly used:
  • To track drugs and devices in market, in order to file safety reports;
  • As a source for Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) and systematic reviews;
  • To search and filter relevant literature to support research and discovery;
To access EMBASE go to HSE Library and login with your ATHENS account, follow the OVID Embase link. BNF and BNF for children published jointly by the British Medical Association and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The BNF includes:
  • Guidance on the drug management of common conditions;
  • Details of medicines with special reference to their uses,cautions, contra-indications, side-effects, doses, and relative costs;
  • Guidance on prescribing, monitoring, dispensing, and administering medicines;
