HSE Open Access Research Awards 2015

 Today is the day we announce the winners of the #HSE #Openaccess #research awards.  This award is to encourage and reward open access publishing in the health sector in Ireland. Open access to health information has been proven to increase citation, impact and can lead to the translation of research into better outcomes for patient care.
What is Open Access?
Open Access is the free, immediate, online availability of high-quality, peer-reviewed research results with the potential to transform the way we communicate and deliver our healthcare service.
Open access publication has been defined separately by three statements known as the "BBB definition" which represents the "Budapest (Feb 2002), Bethesda (June 2003), and Berlin (Oct 2003) statements. Open access means unrestricted access and unrestricted reuse. The definition of an Open Access Publication is

Benefits of OA Research
  • Accelerated discovery. With open access, researchers can read and build on the findings of others without restriction.
  • Public enrichment. Much scientific and medical research is paid for with public funds. Open access allows taxpayers to see the results of their investment.
  • Improved education. Open access means that teachers and their students have access to the latest research findings throughout the world
